Obituary

Phillip White Sr.,88,a former resident of Monessen for many years,died Wednesday,Oct.11,1978,at 8:45 p.m.in the St.Francis Hospital,Charleston,W.Va. Mr.White,who resided at 930 Central Ave.,Charleston,W.Va.,was born Oct.1,1890 in Georgetown,S.C.,a son of the late Scipio and Katherine Smith White. He had resided in Monessen for 50 years before moving to Charleston,W.Va.several years ago. He was a retired employee of the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.and was a Baptist by faith. Mr.White is survived by his widow,Eva Marie White of Charleston,W.Va.,seven sons,Phillip White Jr.of Belle Vernon,Scipio and Luther White,both of Monessen,William White of Virginia Beach,Va.,Charles White of Brooklyn,N.Y.,Theodore White of Eldora,Monongahela R.D.1 and Fred White of Millersville,Md.,one daughter,Mrs.Anna Ruth Macer of Baltimore,Md.,two step-sons,Leon Johnson of Monessen and George Johnson of Charleston,W.Va.,one step-daughter,Mrs.Florence Womack of Charleston,W.Va.,15 grandchildren,three great-grandchildren,12 step-grandchildren,nine step-great-grandchildren,and a number of other relatives in the Mon Valley. Friends will be received in the Percy E.Law Jr.Funeral Home in Donora after 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.on Sunday where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m.in the Wayman AME Church in Monessen with the Rev.E.E.Davis,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Percy E.Law Jr.funeral director in charge.
