Pete Celaschi,one of the Charleroi community's better-known citizens, who was long active in political as well as fraternal circles,died at 1 p.m. Sunday,Aug. 21987,in Mon Valley Hospital,Carroll Twp.,following a short illness. Mr. Celaschi,who was 82,was a former Charleroi Borough councilman,serving in that capacity for a period of 28 years. He is the father of Charleroi District Magistrate Larry Celaschi,former Charleroi Borough police chief. Mr. Celaschi was born June 29,1905,in Germany,a son of the late Louis and Inez Andreoli Celaschi. He lived with his wife of 58 years, Louise Delbarre Celaschi (who survives) at 311 Crest Ave. in Charleroi. Mr. Celaschi retired from the Corning Glass Works Charleroi Plant in 1968 after 50 years of service,completing a career in the Blowing Room and in supervision. He began his employment there in 1918. He received his 50-year service pin from Corning President R. Lee Waterman during a unique ceremony witnessed by his wife and his mother,Mrs.Inez Celaschi, who was then 84. At that anniversary dinner,Waterman called it a remarkable achievement,unique for Corning as well as for American Industry. Mr. Celaschi's pride and concern for Corning continued long after his retireent. He was one of two persons - the other being Luke Mastronicola- to organize the Corning Retirees' Association of Charleroi. He served as that group's first president in 1974. Mr. Celaschi's activities were not limited to Corning,nor to borough government. He was one of the charter members of the Tri-County Boroughs' Association,a group designed to foster better relations among communities throughut the mid-Mon Valley. He was also a 71-year member and past president of the Italia Unita club in Charleroi,as well as a longtime president and member of the former Third Street French Club of Charleroi. He also held memberships in the Belgium Club, Elks Club, Russian Club,Historical Society,Oldtimers Club,and Golden Agers, all of Charleroi. For years,Mr. Celaschi was an active participant in the Corning Euchre League. He was also a member of Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church,Charleroi. He was fluent in three languages. A brother, Hugo Celaschi, and two sisters, Mary Andreoli and Helen Cowell,are deceased. Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Lawrence (Larry) Celaschi, of Charleroi; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Gloria) Zeli and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Litavec,both of Charleroi and Mrs. Arthur (Joyce) Tonozzi of Uniontown;two brothers, Albert Celaschi of Charleroi and Joseph Celaschi of Coudersport, Pa. and one sister,Mrs. Raymond (Norma) Dalfonso of North Belle Vernon. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Home,Inc.,Third St. and Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi.A Mass of Cristian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Mother of Sorrows R.C. Church,Charleroi,with the Rev. Pierre Sodini,pastor,as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
