Peter A. Sopko Jr.; 50; of Marine St.; Belle Vernon (Washington Township); died Saturday; March 2; 2002; at 2:45 p.m. in Shadyside Hospital; Pittsburgh. Born April 27; 1951; in North Charleroi; he was the son of Peter A. Sr. and Agnes DiGregorio Sopko of Fayette City. Mr. Sopko was a resident of Washington Township for the past eight months; having previously resided in Amity. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and was a sales manager for General Cable of Kentucky. He had been previously employed by Bethlehem Mines. Mr. Sopko was a graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School with the Class of 1969; Penn State University with the Class of 1973; and was an active member of the community; currently serving on the Washington Township Zoning Board. He also was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Redstone Watershed. He is survived by his wife; Kate MacDonald Sopko; to whom he was married 23 years; loving father of Patrick; Megan and Brennan Sopko; all at home; one brother and sister-in-law; Paul and Milana Sopko of Washington; Pa.; one sister and brother-in-law; Anna Jean and Dennis Stuchal of Masontown; eight nieces; and one great niece and great nephew. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME; Family Owned and Operated; 626 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home; following by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. John R. Cindric; V.F.; pastor of St. Sebastian R.C. Church; and the Rev. Greg Premoshis; president of Geibel Catholic High School in Connellsville; as co-celebrants. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed Monday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home by members of St. Sebastian Parish. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Peter A. Sopko Jr. to St. Vincent DePaul Society.
