Obituary

Peter L. Mazzei,83,of Belle Vernon R.D.1,died Tuesday,Dec. 22,1992,at 11:20 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township.  Mr. Mazzei was born June 6,1909,in Belle Vernon,a son of the late Angelo and Mary Cardamone Mazzei.  Prior to retiring,he had owned and operated the former Atlantic Service Station on Broad Avenue in North Belle Venron for a period of 15 years. Mr. Mazzei had lived his entire life in the Belle Vernon area.  He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon,and the American Legion Post No.659,Belle Vernon. Mr. Mazzei was also a life member of the Belle Vernon Moose Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II,serving as a technical sergeant wit the 399th Infantry Regiment of the 100th Infantry Division. Serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II,Mr. Mazzei had fought against the Germans in the Rhineland and in the Central European and African Middle Eastern campaigns,receiving numerous military decorations,including two Bronze Stars. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son,Anthony and by  two sisters, Josephine Marasce and Sue Touche. Surviving are his wife,Thresa Lackner Mazzei; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Carol Mazzei of Belle Vernon R.D.1;a daughter, Mrs. Dexter (Debbie) Ridgdill,of Gainesville, Fla.;four brothers, Angelo,Dominick and Frank Mazzei,all of Belle Vernon,and John Mazzei of Chad Ford, Pa.;three sisters, Theresa Sanino,Catherine Doenges and Anita Sefchok,all of Belle Vernon and three grandchildren.  Friends will be received in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday until the time of an 11:30 a.m. Prayer Service in the funeral home,followed by a noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church,Belle Vernon.  Belle Vernon American Legion services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.  Belle Vernon Council Knights of Columbus services will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Ferguson Funeral Home Inc. is handling arrangements.
