Obituary

Paul T. Matta, 92, of Monessen, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 in Meadowcrest Nursing Center, Bethel Park. He was born in Monessen on April 11, 1915, the son of the late Michael and Mary Mendola Matta. He was a 1936 graduate of Rostraver High School. Mr. Matta was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monessen AARP, the Hungarian Society, the former Open Hearth Bowling League, and he was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan. He was retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked in the open hearth department. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Chackovics Matta, a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel P. and Teresa Matta, of Belle Vernon, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Donald Wolf, of Delaware, Ohio, and Janey and Manuel Rodriguez, of Perry Township, eight grandchildren, Brian Wolf and wife Glenna, Greg and Michael Wolf, Alicia, Jeremy and Noelle Matta, Chad Warfield and wife Renae, and Matthew Warfield, and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Mike, and George Matta, and John Kaylo. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Monessen Public Library or Monessen EMS.
