Obituary

Mayor Patricia Ann Angelo, 62, of North Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at 8:30 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. Born Aug. 18, 1941, in Monongahela, she was the daughter of Millie Poli Angelo, who survives and resides in North Belle Vernon, and the late Patsy Angelo. Ms. Angelo was retired from the Belle Vernon Area School District at Marion Elementary School, where she taught as a librarian teacher. She was a graduate of Bellmar High School Class of 1959, California University Class of 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and library science. Ms. Angelo taught for the Belle Vernon Area School District for 35 years as a teacher and teacher librarian until retiring in 1997. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon, where she served on the pastoral council. Ms. Angelo also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Belle Vernon Court 1522, a past president of the Catholic Women's College Club, and a member of the DCCW, PSEA and NEA. She was North Belle Vernon Borough's first woman to serve on council and was elected Mayor of North Belle Vernon in 1992. She belonged to the Westmoreland County Borough and Westmoreland County Mayor associations, served as a board member for the North Belle Vernon Public Library, was a representative to the Belle Vernon Municipal Water Authority and member of MATCH at Mon Valley Hospital. Ms. Angelo also served as treasurer for the former Belle Vernon Business and Professional Association, donated her time as a greeter at Mon Valley Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels in the Belle Vernon area. In addition to her mother, she is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Regina Angelo of Rostraver Township, one niece, Kristen Cooney and husband Kevin of Greensburg, and one great-nephew, Evan Cooney. Visitation will be held Tuesday from noon to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon (724-929-6183). A prayer service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas of St. Sebastian Church and the Rev. Ronald L. Simboli of the Church of St. Anne as concelebrants. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Patricia Ann Angelo on Tuesday at 2 p.m., members of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department will pay respects Tuesday at 7 p.m., Belle Vernon Lions Club at 7:30 p.m. and members of the North Belle Vernon Borough Council, North Belle Vernon Police Department, Rostraver/North Belle Vernon Youth Commission and borough employees at 8 p.m., all in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Patricia Ann Angelo to Marion Elementary School Library, Belle Vernon Public Library or the Mon Valley Hospital Oncology Department for Research.
