Obituary

Oliver Judson Kreger Jr.,a member of a pioneer medical family of Monessen,died Sunday, Feb. 21,1988,at 9:35 a.m. in Haven Crest,Carroll Twp.,after a lingering illness. He was born Oct. 6,1914, a son of the late Dr. Oliver J.and Emma Myers Kreger Sr.  His mother was an early member of the Monessen educational system and served as principal of the Jefferson School for many years.  Dr. Kreger had suffered from a paralytic stroke while visiting in Florida in 1977 and had been confined to his home at 9 Penn Drive, Monessen. He was a graduate of Monessen High School,and Penn State University.  He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1941,and served his internship at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Upon completion of his internship,Dr. Kreger served as a major in the 1st Calvary Division of the Army in the Pacific theater of war.  He served in the Phillipine Islands,on Leyte and Luzon, New Guinea,and was a member of the "first team" to enter Tokyo Bay at the surrender of Japan. Upon his discharge from the service,Dr. Kreger joined his father in medical practice in Monessen. He was a member of the Monessen Masoic Lodge No.638 F. & A.M., the B.P.O.E. Lodge 773,the Raven A.A.,Veterans of Foreign Wars,and the American Legion Post 28, all of Monessen.  He was also a member of the AARP,and belonged to the Medical Societies of Westmoreland County and the state,along with the American Medical Association. Surviving are his wife, Helen; a son and daughter-in-law,Thomas and Linda of Hewitt, N.J.; a daughter,Karen Lee of Monroeville; a grandson, Brian of Hewitt and a sister, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Houy of Monessen. Visitors will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen.  Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home,with the Rev. Earl Lehman of the First Baptist Church,Monessen, officaiting.  Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Rhome Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
