Obituary

Oliver B. West Sr., 84, of Daisytown, formerly of Charleroi, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, in his home. A son of the late Samuel E. and Alma Paulson West, he was born in Martins Ferry, W.Va., on March 12, 1922. Until his recent illness, he had resided in Charleroi since 1975. He retired in 1982 from the Edgar Thompson Plant of U.S. Steel, where he was a craneman. A U.S. Army, World War II veteran, he was a life member of the Charleroi American Legion, Post 22, VFW Post 699, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the 25th Infantry Division Association, and a life member and past commander of VFW Post 167. Oliver also was a member of the Charleroi Sportsman's Association, the Belgium Club and the Perryopolis VFW. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and William Johnson, of Daisytown, Norma Jean and Bradley Baker, of Perryopolis, and Barbara and Charles Moore, of North Charleroi, two sons and daughters-in-law, Oliver B. Jr. and Victoria West, of Dawson, and L. Gregg and Sharon West, of Monongahela, two sisters, Sara Jean Wilbraham, of Deland, Fla., and Dorothy Williams, of Star Junction, three brothers, James West, of North Carolina, Howard Red West, of Belle Vernon, and David L. West, of Marion, Mich., 12 grandchildren, Rhonda Timlin, Brett Johnson, Amanda Puskar, Jeff and Noel Ranker, Dannelle Morris, Matthew Baker, Sean and Todd West, Erika Urban, and Lauren and Chuck Moore, and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Gale Gregg West, in 1993, and one grandson, Oliver B. West III, and three brothers, Paul, Charles and Robert West. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, www.fergusonfuneralhome.net, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral Services will be in the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 18, at noon with the Rev. Bruce Northey officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery with full military honors. American Legion Post 22 and VFW Post 167 will meet in the funeral home to hold services on Thursday at 8 p.m.
