Obituary

Olga J. Lahey, 87, of Monessen, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. She was born May 25, 1914, in Monessen, a daughter of the late Edwardo and Domenica (Arnoldi) Contine. Mrs. Lahey was a 1931 graduate of Monessen High School, and a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. She worked for former Monessen Mayor Hugo J. Parente as a secretary, and later became a tax clerk with the Westmoreland County Tax Office, retiring with 28 years of service. She was a World War II veteran, having served as a sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of American Legion Post 28 in Monessen. Mrs. Lahey was also the former chairman of the Monessen Democratic Committee, and was an avid bingo player. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen L. and Michael A. Cmar of Monessen, the love of her life, her grandson, Michael E. Cmar of Monessen, three nieces, Kathleen Hubans of Toledo, Ohio, Honey Handyside and Patty Handyside, both of Allison Park, and by several great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Lahey Jr., in 1972, a brother, Julius Contine, and by two sisters, Josephine Duronio and Julia Lipnicky. Friends will be received at the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
