Obituary

Norman Burke,70,of 203 Connellsville St.,Uniontown,formerly of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, Oct. 21,1976 at 11 a.m. at his home.  He was born Jan. 24,1906,in Star Junction,a son of the late John E. and Sarah Margaret Wilkes Burke. Mr. Burke was a retired crane operator at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation's Allenport Plant and a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 1187 of Allenport.  He belonged to Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Rummell Burke on Oct. 21,1970. Survivors are his widow,Vera Smith Burke,four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Janice) Stathers of Buffington,Pa.,Mrs. Barry (Sandra) Taylor of Charleroi R.D.2,Mrs. Norman ( Sally) Reconnu of Maywood, Calif.,and Mrs. James (Joyce) Fleming of Belle Vernon,one son, Barry Burke of Charleroi R.D.2,two sisters, Mrs. Clarence R. ( Minnie) Shirley of Durant, Fla.and Mrs. Lena Adams of California,Pa.,one brother, Benjamin Burke of Birmingham, Ala.,19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home,80 Morgantown St.,Uniontown,Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday,Oct. 25,1976 until 10:30 a.m.,the time of services, with the Rev. John A. Buckley of the Calvary United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
