Nancy Lillian Garner; 83; of
130 Branthoover St.; Arnold
City; died Monday; Nov. 15;
1999; at 6 p.m. at her home.
She was born Dec. 17;1916; in
North Carolina; a daughter of
the late Calvin Smith and
Ruth Atkinson. Mrs. Garner
was a resident of Belle
Vernon/Arnold City for over 60
years. She was Baptist by
faith and a member of the
Antioch Baptist Church of
Belle Vernon; where she
served as a deaconess; on the
nurses board; the ushers
board; in the Mass choir; and
willing workers. Mrs. Garner
was also a member of the
NAACP; volunteered for the
Meals on Wheels program; and
served as a home health aide
for the Area Agency on Aging.
She was also a daughter of the
Elks Okay Lodge of Monessen.
In addition to her parents; she
was preceded in death by her
husband; Deacon James Daniel Garner in 1983; and by a
daughter; Ruth Ann Garner.
Survivors include five sons
and daughters-in-law; James
and Dolly Sellers of Upper
Marlboro; Md.; Samuel and
Millicent Sellers of Arnold
City; Thomas Daniel and
Catherine Garner of Oxen
Hill; Md.; Eugene Melvin and
Mary E. Garner of Monessen;
Leon McKinley and Denise
Gamer of Teaneck; N.J.; five
daughters; Retha Sellers of
Washington; D.C.; Lillian; S.
Gordon Sellers of Washington
D.C.; Memory Graham of
Washington D.C.; F. Delane
Garner of Washington D.C.;
and Nancy Marie Garner Williams and husband Norman of
Temple Hill; Md..; four brothers; Carver Lee Smith of Milwaukee; Wis.; Jacob Smith of
Enfield; N.C.; George W.
Smith of Norfolk; Va.; and
Jesse Smith of Milwaukee;
Wis.;; one sister; Madgeline
McDowell of Washington D.C.;
29 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a
host of nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. Friends will be
received Thursday from 4 to 9
p.m. in the WILLIAM R. TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME; 645
McMahon Ave.; Monessen; and
on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at
the Antioch Baptist Church;
942 Henry St.; Belle Vernon.
Friends will also be received at
the church Saturday from 11
a.m. to 1 p.m.; the hour of
service; with the Rev. Clifford
Carter; pastor; officiating. Interment will follow in Belle
Vernon Cemetery. Trudy
Taylor-Bristol is in charge of arrangements.
