Obituary

Mildred L. Humphries, 87, of Monessen, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at HCR Manor Care in Pittsburgh with her family at her side. Born Jan. 17, 1921, in Alicia, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Theodore D. and Irene E. Walters. Mrs. Humphries was Baptist by faith and a professional homemaker. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Millie Blount, of Atlanta, Ga., and Haleloke (Saleumsak) Khammungkhune, of San Diego, Calif., one son, Carroll D. (Emma Joyce) Humphries, two brothers, Theodore D. Walters Jr., of Austin, Texas, and Robert E. Walters, of Monessen, three sisters, Hilda W. Simmons, of Pittsburgh, Shirley E. Taylor, of Monessen, and Dolly A. Smith, of Masontown, one sister-in-law, Dorcas Glasco, of Washington, D.C., seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel H. Humphries Sr., one son, Samuel T. Humphries, five sisters, Helen Walters, Evelyn Mason, Florence Davis, Bernice Gummer and Doris Lee. Funeral services officiated by Elder Jack A. Howell were held Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the BEVERLY C. DRAPER FUNERAL HOME, 608 Sixth St., Monessen (724-684-6242). Interment took place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
