Obituary

Mildred C.Smith,who had taught in the former North Belle Vernon High School,died Tuesday,Oct.28,1975,at 6:25 p.m.in Johns Hopkins Hospital,Baltimore,Md. Mrs.Smith,65,resided at 5207 Nuth Ave.,Baltimore,Md. Born in Gibsonton on Sept.29,1910,she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ella Coughenour Cowher. In addition to teaching at NBV High,she formerly taught Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church,Belle Vernon,where she belonged. She had graduated from Belle Vernon High School and California State Teachers College. A resident of Baltimore since 1940,she had also been a teacher in the Baltimore Area School District,retiring in 1972. Surviving are her husband,Herbert U.Smith,one brother,Laird G.Cowher of Pittsburgh,and two sisters,Mrs.Leslie (Bernice) Bowman and Mrs.Eugene (Ethel) Randall,both of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,from 7 to 9 p.m.Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m.with the Rev.Charles Colas of First Baptist Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is funeral director in charge.
