Mildred C.Smith;who had taught in the former North Belle Vernon High School;died Tuesday;Oct.28;1975;at 6:25 p.m.in Johns Hopkins Hospital;Baltimore;Md. Mrs.Smith;65;resided at 5207 Nuth Ave.;Baltimore;Md. Born in Gibsonton on Sept.29;1910;she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ella Coughenour Cowher. In addition to teaching at NBV High;she formerly taught Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church;Belle Vernon;where she belonged. She had graduated from Belle Vernon High School and California State Teachers College. A resident of Baltimore since 1940;she had also been a teacher in the Baltimore Area School District;retiring in 1972. Surviving are her husband;Herbert U.Smith;one brother;Laird G.Cowher of Pittsburgh;and two sisters;Mrs.Leslie (Bernice) Bowman and Mrs.Eugene (Ethel) Randall;both of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;from 7 to 9 p.m.Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m.with the Rev.Charles Colas of First Baptist Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is funeral director in charge.
