Obituary

Mike Stanish,90,of 1027 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,formerly of Marion Villa,Arnold City,died Thursday,April 24,1986,at 6:45 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. Mr.Stanish was born May 4,1895,in Poland,a son of the late Paul and Pauline Stanish. He was a charter member and a life member of the Washington Township Fire Department. Mr.Stanish was also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Asociation,the Fayette County Firemen's Association and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Chiefs Association. He retired in March 1953 from the Black Diamond Mine of the Hillman Coal Company,and was a member of the United Mine Workers. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by his wife,Rose Higgins Stanish,in 1945,and by a brother and a sister,Samuel Stanish and Theresa Moslek. Survivors include one daughter,June Bergman of Belle Vernon with whom he made his home,one brother,Joseph Stanish of St.Petersburg,Fla.,four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Monday,April 28,at 10 a.m. with the Rev.Donald Swanson,pastor of Lynnwood Lutheran Church,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department will hold services Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
