Obituary

Michael Rockidge,age 21 years,of Warner,Charleroi,R.D.1,died Tuesday, August 24,1948 in McGinnis Hospital,Ligonier,at 12:01 p.m. from injuries suffered in an accident south of Ligonier on Friday,August 20. The accident occurred when the car driven by Mr. Rockidge struck a cemetery wall at Ligonier,according to the report of the mishap. The car was completely demolished.  He was driving alone at 10 p.m. when the accident occurred. The victim was a veteran of World War II,having served as a Carpenter's Mate 2/C in the Navy.  He enlisted on November 20,1945 and was discharged November 2,1947. He was employed as a truck driver for the Reeves Motor Company of Charleroi. Locally,he was a member of Charleroi Eagles,the American Legion,Arden Calvert Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his parents,Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rockidge of Warner;four brothers, John at home,Steve of Fayette City,Thomas of Charleroi R.D.and George of Charleroi; also six sisters,Mrs. William Simmons of Charleroi,Mrs. Charles Hager of Bentleyville,Helen Rockidge of Coraopolis,Mrs. Harry Tharp of Cleveland,Ohio;Mrs. George Pulaski of Charleroi and Elizabeth at home. Friends will be received at the late home.  Services will be held in St. Jerome's  Church,Friday,August 27,1948,at 9 a.m.,and interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Arden Calvert Post 167,will have charge of military rites.  Chas. L. Melenyger is the funeral director.
