Obituary

Michael "Mike" Backo, 74, of 204 Otto St.,Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township),died Friday, Feb. 13,1998 at 10:40 a.m.in the emergency room of Monongahela Valley Hospital. Mr. Backo was born Aug. 13,1923 in Hunker,a son of the late Rocco and Helen Pelo Backo. A veteran of World War II as a member of the United States Navy, he had resided in Belle Vernon for six years and was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Belle Vernon after moving there from York, where he worked as a foundry man in a cast iron factory. He is survived by two brothers, Steve Backo of Monessen and Metro Backo of Belle Vernon and two sisters, Eva Smichnick of Belle Vernon and Helen Konick Koslosky,with whom he made his home. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Backo,Joseph Backo and Charles Backo and two sisters, Mary Reeder and Anna Ray. Friends will be received on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home, 626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where a Parastas service will be held on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. and a Prayer service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church,Mary St.,Belle Vernon,with the Rev. John Kluchko,the pastor at Holy Resurrection,presiding.  Interment will be in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
