Obituary

Michael Mickey Mutich, 87, of Perry Avenue, Fairhope (Belle Vernon), died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Richard and Tina Radish Mutich, he was born in Fairhope, Oct, 29, 1915. Serbian Orthodox by faith, he was a lifelong resident of Fairhope. He was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club. He had been the Washington Township Road Supervisor in the 1950s and retired from the Belle Vernon Area School District, where he was the maintenance supervisor. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was a paratrooper and received a Purple Heart for injuries received in the Battle of the Bulge. He also was awarded four bronze stars. Survivors include a son, Mike Mutich, of Fayette City, five daughters, Joanne Hastings of Pawley's Island, S.C., Joyce Gerace of York, Jackie Gazdik of Belle Vernon, Mickey Lynn Regula of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Tina Mutich of Belle Vernon, two brothers, Louis Mutich of Sheffield Lakes, Ohio, and Barney Mutich of Fayette City, a sister, Mildred Baron of Champion, nine grandchildren, Jim and Brian Hastings, Cary and Todd Gerace, Joshua Gazdik, Casey Kovatch, Jordan, Brady and Brooke Mutich, and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Cameron and Tanner Gerace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dora B. Mutich on Aug. 22, 2002, brothers, Guy, Nick and Charles Mutich, and a sister, Rebecca. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, with the Very Rev. Dr. Rodney Torbic officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
