Obituary

Michael Kunca, 95, of North Belle Vernon, formerly of Monessen, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at his residence. He was born Jan. 25, 1909, in Arnold City, a son of the late Michael Kunca and Mary Resetar Kunca. He was an employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant, having been a masonry foreman prior to his retirement. Mr. Kunca was a member of the National Slovak Society. He was an avid baseball fan and had been an exceptional player on various teams and leagues in the Mon Valley area. Mr. Kunca was also fondly remembered as being a senior citizen paper carrier for The Valley Independent for many years. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Eileen Kunca of Belle Vernon, with whom he made his home, and Michael A. and Patricia Kunca of Wilmington, N.C., five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and two sisters and one brother, Mary Hrivnak of New Kensington, George Kunsa of Monessen, and Betty Trembach of Dearborn, Mich. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Kathryn Hanas Kunca, and two sisters, Irene Evans and Anna Gannitto. Friends will be received at the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, a Golden Rule Funeral Home, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
