Obituary

Michael D. Battista (Giambattista), 76, of Jefferson Township, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Johnsonburg, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Gallo Giambattista of Aquila Antrorano, Italy, and Ridgway, Pa. He attended First Christian Church of Fayette City and was a member of Lions Club of Tallahassee, Fla., Teamsters 872 Retirees' Club, Belle Vernon Moose, American Legion Post 659, and the VFW. Mr. Battista was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. Formerly of Tallahassee, he retired from the former Fox Grocery Co. and the current SuperValu, where he was a truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dubinsky Battista, who resides in the Beverly Healthcare facility, Canonsburg, two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Linda Giambattista, with whom he made his home, Michael and Shari Giambattista Jr. of Boston, Pa., two daughters and one son-in-law, Lynn and Lane Sickles of Belle Vernon and Cindy Heichel of Frisco, Texas, two brothers, Frank and John Battista, one sister, Rose Brown, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kassler, on July 23, 2002, one brother, Guy, and one sister, Mary. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Boring officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will hold services in the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and will retire the colors, in ceremony, following the chapel service in the cemetery.
