Melvin Owen Harden,66,of 1354 Sadowski Ave.,Belle Vernon (Washington Township),died Saturday,Dec. 18,1993,at 2:45 p.m. in his home.He was born Feb. 8,1927,in Monessen,a son of the late David Owen and Elsie Trew Harden. He resided in Washington Township the past 45 years. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church,Monessen. He was a veteran of World War II,having served in the U.S.Air Force. He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. He was retired from the automobile sales management industry,serving as general manager for Al Schwartz Pontiac in West Mifflin. He was also employed as a general manager for Cummins Volvo in Canonsburg,and owned and operated Mel's Auto Sales,Rostraver Township. He was currently president of the Belle Vernon Golden Age Assembly. He was a member and past grand master of the Free and Accepted Masons,Belle Vernon Lodge 643. He was a member of Syria Temple of Pittsburgh. He was a lifetime member of the Junior Sportsmen's Association. Survivors include his wife of 49 years,Georgina (Jean) Bush Harden;one daughter,Mrs. Charles (Becky) Wood of Greensburg;three grandchildren,Scott Wood, Susan Eutsey and Michelle DeMine; two great-grandchildren;one brother,William Smith of Marietta and two sisters,Mrs. James (Gertrude) McDonald of Altoona and Virginia L. Smith of Belle Vernon. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by one son,Larry Owen Harden on Jan.5,1971;and one brother,Sam Smith. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home Inc.,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Fink of the First Baptist Church,Monessen,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m. by Free and Accepted Masons,Belle Vernon Lodge 643,and at 7:30 p.m. by Belle Vernon American Legion Post No. 659. The Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
