Obituary

Melvin Lehew, formerly of 392 Jones St., Belle Vernon, died Thursday Oct.19,1978, at 12:01 a.m. in the Waddington Convalescent Home, Fayette City R.D. He was 85. Born in Belle Vernon, July 30,1893, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Bertha Krepps Lehew. He was a life long resident of the Belle Vernon area. Mr. Lehew retired in 1958 as an employee in the electrical department of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen plant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, and the F & AM Lodge, No. 643, Belle Vernon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie Guder Lehew, on Nov. 20,1976. Mr. Lehew is survived by two sons, Donald M. Lehew of Belle Vernon, and Edwin C. Lehew of the North Hills (Pittsburgh), one brother, Ralph Lehew of Belle Vernon, two sisters, Mrs. Edna Aitken of Fellsburg, and Mrs. Thelma Latkanich of Monessen, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon,Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m.,with Dr.S.Arthur Talman,pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D. Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
