Obituary

Melvin J. Anderson, 89, of Lynnwood, Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Nevaeh Cove Personal Care Home. A son of the late Arnold and Edith Simon Anderson, he was born in Belle Vernon on April 24, 1924. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he was a member of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church and had retired from the Fisher Body Plant of General Motors. An avid rifle and bow hunter, Melvin also enjoyed motorcycles and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and had received the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Fisher Anderson, one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Joe Nagy of Belle Vernon, one son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Carla Anderson of Monongahela, and two grandchildren, Melanie Nagy of Belle Vernon and Cara Anderson of Canonsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and Allen Anderson. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, http://www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. Funeral services will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Eugene Spear officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery with military honors.
