Melvin Howard Cook Jr., 90, of New Eagle, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at home, with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 20, 1934 in North Charleroi, the son of the late Melvin H. Cook Sr. and Mary (Groger) Cook. He was Catholic by Faith and a member of the former St. Anthony's Church and Transfiguration Catholic Church in Monongahela. He was a 1953 graduate of Monessen High School and after graduation served his country in the United States Army. He won many awards as a boxer such as the Far East Outstanding Boxer in 1956 and was a two time Golden Gloves Champion in 1953 and 1956. He was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and worked at the Pages Plant. He is survived by his five daughters, Debra Vedder, Kathy (Samuel) Vignoli, Carol Cook, Kelly (Richard) Cook-Dieteman, Jaime Cook; Brother, Jim (Viv) Cook; sister, Jo Ann Torok; twelve Grandchildren, sixteen Great-Grandchildren and four Great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Cook, two sisters, Mary J. Holzapfel, Patricia J. Staley and a Brother, Robert E. Cook. Friends will be received on Tuesday September 10th 2024, from 10:30 am to 12:30pm, in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will follow in the funeral home beginning at 12:30pm, with Rev. Donna Schmoyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
