Obituary

Mattie Zola Bailey Jackson,76,of 129 Krolik Avenue,Belle Vernon,died on Wednesday,May 24,1989,in Mon Valley Hospital after a short illness.  She was born on Jan. 11,1913 in Mathews, Alabama, daughter of the late Tom and Essie Wheakfall Bailey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Arthur (Buddy) Jackson,two brothers and one sister. After moving to Pennsylvania,she became a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church of Lynndale Terrace where she served as president and treasurer of the missionary society and as a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Jackson also served as chairman of the Widows March of the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Convention Auxiliary of the YWBA.  She was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Chapter No. 34 of Monessen and Order of Eastern Star,Deborah Grand Chapter,F & AMPHA. Survivors include six sisters,Mary Bailey of New York,Pearl Bailey Jackson of Anderson,Ind.,Fadie Bailey Cox of Montgomery,Ala.,Ada Bailey Todd of Cleveland,Ohio,Charlotte Bailey Smith of Anderson,Ind.,and Minnie Bailey Perry of Cleveland,Ohio;three brothers, Jim Bailey of Cleveland,Ohio,Joshua Bailey of Montgomery,Ala.,and Lucius Bailey of Anderson, Ind.;four sisters-in-law,Bessie Bailey,Lottie Bailey,Thelma Bailey and Gladys Jackson; four brothers-in-law,Clinton Jackson,William Smith,Buford Cox and Matthew Perry and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church,Highland and Henry streets,Belle Vernon.  Eastern Star service will be on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Antioch Church,where a funeral srvice will be held on Saturday at 11 am. with Rev. William C. Callaway,pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Clairton and president of the Pennsylvania state convention officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The Beverly C. Draper Funeral Home,608 Sixth Street, Monessen,is handling arrangements.
