He was born in Washington Twp.on Nov.11;1914;the son of Mary and the late Joseph Shirley. Mr.Shirley was an employee of the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He belonged to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church;Fayette City. He is survived by his widow;Georgia Smoot Shirley;sons;Matthew Jr.;Fayette City R.D.1;and Charles E.at home;daughters;Mrs.Thomas (Mary) E.Strong of Charleroi;Mrs.Charles (Patricia) A.Ross;Fayette City R.D.;his mother;Mrs.Mary Shirley Ambrozich of Fayette City R.D.1;a brother;Joseph of Pricedale;three sisters;Mrs.Arthur (Mary) Schwenk of North Charleroi;Mrs.Charles (Rose) Winship of Fayette City R.D. and Mrs.Thaddeus (Frances) Sobek of Belle Vernon R.D. Friends are being received at McCrory Funeral Home;Fayette City;where a Christian Wake Service will be at 7:30 p.m.Friday and prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Saturday followed by requiem mass at Holy Spirit R.C.Church;Fayette City at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev.Joseph Tamilowski;celebrant. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
