Mary Lou Basits Brewer Kalakewich, 93, of Belle Vernon, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. Born Jan. 9, 1932, in Grindstone, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Evelyn Chiplaskey Basits. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Mrs. Kalakewich was a member of First Christian Church of Belle Vernon and was employed by Santori Cabinets in the 1970s assembling cabinets. She later worked as a teacher’s aide for Belle Vernon Area School District and enjoyed reading. She is survived by her three children, David Brewer, Nancy and Tim Matsick, and Scott and Patricia Brewer, all of Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Brewer, in 1973; second husband, John Kalakewich, in 1992; two daughters, Pamela Pendland and Debra LaRew; daughter-in-law, Glenda Brewer; three grandchildren, Zachary Brewer, Nicole LaRew and Andrew Brewer; brother, Alex Basits Jr.; and sister, Betty Jane Simpson. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, PA 15012, 724-929-6183.
