Obituary

Mary Sivek, formerly of Lynnwood (Belle Vernon) passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 in Brandywine Hall, West Chester, PA. A daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Luzanski Sarnowski, she was born in Belle Vernon on February 1, 1924. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and, for several years, was involved in the Belle Vernon Area Sports Boosters. A resident of West Chester since 2006, she had lived most of her life in Lynnwood. Mary had fond memories of her time working in the former Vernon Pharmacy and, during World War II, was employed in Washington, D.C. for the predecessor to the C.I.A. She was a devoted homemaker and was happiest in her kitchen. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Sivek of Gaithersburg, MD, one son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Barbara Sivek of West Chester and one grandson, Kelby Sivek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Sivek in 1979, one sister, Helen Walko and two brothers, Denny and Joseph Sarnowski. Friends will be received 7 to 9 P.M. Friday in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-5300 www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com A blessing service will be in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. Saturday followed by a funeral mass at 10 A.M. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church with Fr. Frank Gan as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brandywine Hall, c/o Resident Recreation Fund, 800 West Miner Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
