Obituary

Mary L. Spiker Plewniak, 90, of Fairhope, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 surrounded by her family in her home. A daughter of the late William and Goldie Nolan Perney, she was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 16, 1931. She was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church and she was employed for 25 years at the G.C. Murphy Company. Mary, also known as “Baba”, was an avid reader and enjoyed shopping. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Elmer C. and Becky Spiker, Jr. of Belle Vernon; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and William Cole of Daytona Beach, FL, Diane and Rick Johnston of Belle Vernon, and Debra and Thomas Tunney of Belle Vernon; ten grandchildren, Jodee (Mike) Faryna, Jeremy (Kristen) Ortolona, Carlee (Bob) Hovanec, Jacob (Mindy) Ortolona, John Yetsconish, Darcy (Jeff) Fearer, Jim (Brooke) Spiker, Emalee Tunney and companion, Mary, Mollee Tunney and companion, Joey, and Elmer C. Spiker III; 14 great grandchildren, two sisters, Gladys Lamey of Monessen and Clara (Gerald) Wiltz of WV; and a brother, Russell (Mavis) Perney of Monessen; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Perney and Gail Perney, both of Belle Vernon; and a special friend, Beth Dillon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Elmer C. Spiker Sr. on June 16, 1986, her 2nd husband, Walter J. Plewniak on March 12, 2011, a sister, Verna Frame; and three brothers, Robert, Henry, and Stanley Perney. The family would like to thank ViaQuest Hospice care for the outstanding compassion and care. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10 A.M. with Rev. Robert Prinkey officiating, followed by interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
