Obituary

Mary Ethel Crawley,91,of 638 Reed Ave.,Monessen,died Thursday,Nov.23,1989,at 7:50 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital Inc.,Carroll Township,following a brief illness. Born Sept.23,1898,in Gladys,Va.,she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Mary Payne. Mrs.Crawley was a member of Union Baptist Church,Monessen,for the past 62 years. She had been Mother of the Church for over 15 years. A former member of the church's Gospel Chorus,she was a member of the church's Ladies Auxiliary,Missionary Society and Circle Ruth. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband,Clarence Crawley,in 1981,a brother,Robert Payne,and a son-in-law,DuBoise H.Carter. Surviving are four sons,Albert Crawley of Monessen,with whom she resided,Manuel Crawley of Washington,D.C.,Samuel Crawley of San Diego,Calif.,and Harry Crawley of Largo,Md.,three daughters,Frances Carter of Aliquippa,Fannie Marie Burroughs and Constance Crawley,both of Monessen,13 grandchildren,17 great-grandchildren,five great-great-grandchildren,one sister,Helen Brown of Philadelphia,one brother-in-law,Carl Crawley Sr.,two sisters-in-law,Minnie Brown of Brooklyn,N.Y.,and Lockie Lovelace of Gladys,Va.,and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the William R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave., Monessen,and on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church,McMahon Ave.,Monessen,where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev.Leslie Strader,Pastor,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the William R.Taylor Funeral Home.
