Mary Ethel Crawley;91;of 638 Reed Ave.;Monessen;died Thursday;Nov.23;1989;at 7:50 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital Inc.;Carroll Township;following a brief illness. Born Sept.23;1898;in Gladys;Va.;she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Mary Payne. Mrs.Crawley was a member of Union Baptist Church;Monessen;for the past 62 years. She had been Mother of the Church for over 15 years. A former member of the church’s Gospel Chorus;she was a member of the church’s Ladies Auxiliary;Missionary Society and Circle Ruth. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Clarence Crawley;in 1981;a brother;Robert Payne;and a son-in-law;DuBoise H.Carter. Surviving are four sons;Albert Crawley of Monessen;with whom she resided;Manuel Crawley of Washington;D.C.;Samuel Crawley of San Diego;Calif.;and Harry Crawley of Largo;Md.;three daughters;Frances Carter of Aliquippa;Fannie Marie Burroughs and Constance Crawley;both of Monessen;13 grandchildren;17 great-grandchildren;five great-great-grandchildren;one sister;Helen Brown of Philadelphia;one brother-in-law;Carl Crawley Sr.;two sisters-in-law;Minnie Brown of Brooklyn;N.Y.;and Lockie Lovelace of Gladys;Va.;and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the William R.Taylor Funeral Home;645 McMahon Ave.; Monessen;and on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Union Baptist Church;McMahon Ave.;Monessen;where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev.Leslie Strader;Pastor;officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the William R.Taylor Funeral Home.
