Mary Elizabeth Geer, 95, of West Newton, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Caring Heights, Coraopolis. A daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Harvey Irvine, she was born on February 19, 1925 in Monessen. Mary was a member of the Mon Valley YMCA, Willow Pointe Center for Fitness and Health, the Collinsburg German Club, and the West Newton VFW. She retired in 1990 after being a cook on Combustion Coal Company’s riverboats. Survivors include two daughters and son in-laws, Kathleen and Don Gillespie of Monongahela and Betsy and John Guy of West Newton; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Stephanie DeSimone of Hopewell; ten grandchildren, Shane (Heather) DeSimone, Jessica (Tom) Spencer, Alec Lopez, Connie Grubesky, Michael Grubesky, Annie (Dave) Doty, Elizabeth DeSimone, Abigail (Jim) Minor, John Guy, and Susan Eichler; many great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Thomas Irvine. Graveside services will be private in Belle Vernon Cemetery with Pastor Mary Kay Glunt.
