Martin Edgar Anthony, 66, retired chief of police of North Belle Vernon,who lived at 538 Conrad Ave.,North Charleroi,died Thursday afternoon,Aug. 4,1966. Mr. Anthony was found by his wife,Marie, when she returned home from work. He was pronunced dead at Charleroi-Monessen Hosptial. Mr. Anthony served 17 years on the police force of North Belle Vernon. At the time of his death he worked for the North Charleroi Special School Patrol. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church,Charleroi,Fraternal Order of Police,20 Years Service,North Belle Vernon Fire Dept.,Musical Society of North Belle Vernon,Charleroi Sportsmen's Association,Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 12 of Washington,D.C. and American Legion Post 659,Belle Vernon. Mr. Anthony served with the United States Army during World War I and the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II. Surviving are his widow, Marie M.,chief telephone operator at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital; a son, John E. of Yardville N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Dick (Elizabeth) Brightwell of Belle Vernon and Mrs. John (Ida) Sloboda of Charleroi; two brothers,Harry of North Belle Vernon and John D. of Charlotte, N.C. and two grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home,Belle Vernon, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Service there at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8.with the Rev. Charles Zacher,pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Charleroi,officiating. Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner,funeral director.
