Obituary

Marshall J.Brighenti,59,of Belle Vernon,died Monday,April 8,1996,in South Hills Health System,Jefferson Hospital. Born May 8,1936,in Monessen,he was a son of the late Angelo and Mary Fabian Brighenti. He was a member of St.Paul Episcopal Church of Monongahela and had served on the vestry of St.Mary Episcopal Church of Charleroi. Mr.Brighenti had been employed with the U.S.Government's Mine Safety and Health Administration. He was one of 15 founding members of an organization known as the Civil War Veterans Historical Association where he had served as secretary and published its newsletter for many years. The organization is now nationwide with well over 300 members. Mr.Brighenti was one of the nation's foremost experts on the subject of the Grand Army of the Republic and a most knowledgeable historian on the local Ringgold Cavalry. He had been acknowledged in numerous books by various authors on his vast knowledge of the Civil War. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a sister,Loraine Kurylo. Survivors include his wife,Julieann Gresh Brighenti,a stepdaughter,Gina Mann,and two grandchildren,Stephanie and Nicholas. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rhome Funeral Home Inc.,1209 Grand Blvd.,Monessen where a prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m.,followed by services at 10 a.m. in St.Paul Baptist Church,in Monongahela. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Rhome Funeral Home Inc.is in charge of arrangements.
