Maria Bertha Hewitt Giles Larkin; 73; of Donora; departed this life on Saturday; July 18; 2009; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Feb. 17; 1936; in Powhatan; Va.; she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Inez Winfred Dawes Hewitt. She was a retired employee of the Housekeeping department at California University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. She was a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts; volunteered with the Head Start Program of McKeesport; delegate for the Democratic National Convention and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Survivors include her beloved companion; Edward Breedlove; of Donora; children; Kevin (Dora) Giles; of Wilkinsburg; Ranata (Michael; deceased) Jones; of Springfield; Mass.; Mark Giles of Ellenwood; Ga.; Rev. Craig (Ronita) Giles; of Center Twp.; Gelinda G.G. Giles; of Donora; Neil (Shari) Giles; of Virginia Beach; Va.; grandchildren whom she reared; Chanae James; of Springfield; Mass.; and Brandon (Gillian) James; of London; England; granddaughter and caregiver; Questa Giles; of Donora; 13 other grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; Edith Marshall; of Hampton; Va.; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9; Wednesday; July 22; at St. Paul Baptist Church; South McKean Avenue; Donora; where services will be held Thursday; July 23; at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
