Obituary

Maria Bertha Hewitt Giles Larkin, 73, of Donora, departed this life on Saturday, July 18, 2009, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Feb. 17, 1936, in Powhatan, Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Inez Winfred Dawes Hewitt. She was a retired employee of the Housekeeping department at California University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. She was a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, volunteered with the Head Start Program of McKeesport, delegate for the Democratic National Convention and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Survivors include her beloved companion, Edward Breedlove, of Donora, children, Kevin (Dora) Giles, of Wilkinsburg, Ranata (Michael, deceased) Jones, of Springfield, Mass., Mark Giles of Ellenwood, Ga., Rev. Craig (Ronita) Giles, of Center Twp., Gelinda G.G. Giles, of Donora, Neil (Shari) Giles, of Virginia Beach, Va., grandchildren whom she reared, Chanae James, of Springfield, Mass., and Brandon (Gillian) James, of London, England, granddaughter and caregiver, Questa Giles, of Donora, 13 other grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Edith Marshall, of Hampton, Va., nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9, Wednesday, July 22, at St. Paul Baptist Church, South McKean Avenue, Donora, where services will be held Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
