Margaret Hammitt of Monessen died Wednesday;Oct.25;1989;at 3:25 a.m.in Westmoreland Hospital;Greensburg. She was 82. Mrs.Hammitt was born Oct.12;1907;in Pittsburgh;a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Balas Melarkey. Residing in Monessen;she was a member of St.Leonard Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to her parents whe was preceded in death by her husband;Herman Hammitt;in 1976;and by s sister;Agnes Volley. Survivors include a daughter;Ruth Hammitt Bradley of Monessen;three sons;Robert A.Hammitt Sr.;Norman L.Hammitt and Thomas E.Hammitt;all of Monessen;two sisters;Mrs.John B.(Dorothy) Kozar of Charleroi and Mrs.Steve (Catherine) Cmar of Fayette City;one brother;Harry Melarkey of Charleroi;15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Stephen D.Yoney Funeral Home;First Street and Schoonmaker Avenue;Monessen;where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m.;followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St.Leonard R.C.Church;Monessen;with the Rev.John Euker as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Stephen D.Yoney Jr.Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
