Lewis A. DeRose,40,of Elizabeth, a native of Monessen,drowned Saturday night Sept. 5,1981,in Canadohisa Lake near Meadville in Crawford County after his fishing boat capsized. He tried to swim 60 feet to the lake's west shore after the 7:45 p.m. accident,by apparently tired and went under. A fishing companion,Leonard Mastadea,38,of Pittsburgh,reportedly stayed with the boat and was rescued. Mr. DeRose was born Nov. 20,1940,in West Virginia,a son of the late Luigi and Mary Merando DeRose. He was a member of St. Cajetan Roman Catholic Church, Monessen,and the Monessen Sons of Italy Lodge. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest DeRose in 1977. Surviving are his wife, Concuelo Garcia Ortega Derose,at home;a daughter, Veronica,and a son, Quinn Michael,both at home and two sisters, Violet Livingstone of Monessen and Elvera Briguglia of Girard, Ohio. Friends will be received in the Raymond D. Dalfonso Funeral Home,441 Reed Ave.,Monessen, Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Prayer service will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. A Blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home,followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Cajetan R.C. Church, Monessen,with the Rev. P. Lino Piniellini,pastor,as celebrant. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Raymond D. Dalfonso Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
