Lois J. Sloan Lyons, 73, of Donora, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2010, at Life Care Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 29, 1937, in Monessen, she was the daughter of Avel E. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Sloan Sr., in 1972, her second husband, Verdell Lyons, in 1990, a daughter, Juanita Lynn Bullard, and two sisters, Jacqueline Cundiff and Georgetta Swanson. Growing up she attended Monessen Public Schools, then furthered her education at Franco's Beauty Academy in Charleroi. She was employed by Petro's Bakery and Donora Towers. Lois shared a great passion and love for people of all ages. Creative in all aspects, she honed this gift and used it throughout her life. Until her passing, she served faithfully and fruitfully in the ministry of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Frank Sloan Jr. She was a former member of Whole Truth Church of God in Christ of Donora, where she was licensed as an evangelist missionary, a church mother, pastor's aid chairperson, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and a member of the Women's Inspirational Choir. She leaves to cherish her memory six sons, the Rev. Frank (Rachelle) Sloan Jr., of Monongahela, Craig (Sandra) Sloan Sr., of Donora, Michael Sloan Sr., of Pittsburgh, Bradley Sloan Sr., of Belle Vernon, LaMont Lyons Sr., of Donora, and Edward (Patricia) Lyons, of Newark, Del., four daughters, Rhonda (Percy) Ballard, of Pittsburgh, Francine (Charles) Williams, of North Charleroi, Denise (Terrance) Jones, of Clearwater, Fla., and Carmen Davis, of Charleroi, 30 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Free Methodist Church, 401 Second St., Monongahela.
