Funeral services will be held at Wednesday June 29;1960 at 9 a.m.for Leona M.Orlando;44;of 508 Speers St.;North Belle Vernon;who died at 11:35 a.m.Saturday;June 25;1960;in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital following a lingering illness. Miss Orlando had been an employee of the the Daily Independent for 26 years;joining the staff in 1934 as a correspondent for the Belle Vernon area. In 1941;Miss Orlando was assigned to The Independent’s editorial office in Monessen as a news and sports reporter. She became well known for her coverage of district sports during World War II. Later she entered The Independent’s advertising department;where she was employed until being hospitalized. Miss Orlando is survived by her stepmother;Ameila Orlando. Her father died 17 years ago. Her only brother;Salvatore;was killed in action in the European Theatre of operations during World War II. Friends are being received at the Toner Funeral Home in North Belle Vernon. A Requiem High Mass will be said for Miss Orlando at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning at St.Sebastian R.C.Church. She will be buried in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
