Lena Lemon-Payne, 91, of McKeesport, formerly of Belle Vernon entered Heaven’s Gates on August 10, 2014 after a long illness at the Kane Facility in McKeesport, Pa. Born in Sumter, South Carolina on May 27, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Hattie Lemon. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie; five brothers, Matthew, George, John, Jerome and Levi. The Lemon Family moved to Belle Vernon, Pa in the early 30’s. The family united with the Antioch Baptist Church and Lena accepted Christ at an early age. She received her early education in the Pennsylvania public school system and graduated from the Belle Vernon High School. Lena played the piano early on at the Antioch Baptist Church before she moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. Lena united with the late Aaron Payne and from this union Gladoria and Douglas Payne were born. Lena worked in Pittsburgh many years as a hair stylist. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Lena was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending and watching on TV football and baseball. Lena leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Gladoria Payne and son, Douglas Payne both of Pittsburgh; niece, Connie Johnson of Glen Burnie, Maryland; nephew, Charles (Joanne) Lemon of Chicago, IL; great niece, Kimberly Smith, who cared for Lena during her illness; many more great nephews, nieces, family, friends and the Antioch Baptist Church Family.
Family and friends will be received at noon on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Antioch Baptist Church, 945 Henry St., Belle Vernon, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. with the Rev.
