Obituary

A former mid Mon-Valley resident, Leland G. Haywood of No. 6, West Side, Rossiter, Pa., died Tuesday,Jan.20,1981,in Punxsutawney Hospital at 1:45 p m. He was 65. Born Feb 8, 1915 in Belle Vernon, he was the son of James Melvin Haywood of Fredericktown, who survives, and the late Catherine Guder Haywood. He had been a resident of Rossiter the past five years, having formerly lived in Dunlevy and Allenport. Mr. Haywood was a former employee of the Allenport Plant of the former Pittsburgh Steel Company. In addition to his father, survivors include his widow, Frances Kucia Haywood, a former Donora resident,two sons,Richard W.Powell of Columbus,Ohio,and Clifton E.Powell,a missionary in the Phillipines,a duaghter,Mrs.Judith Ann Bilinski of Redford,Mich.,a brother,Clifton R.Haywood of Phillipsburg,Miss., a sister,Mary Lou Sowden,wife of Rev.Charles K.Sowden,of Fredericktown,and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1960,and two brothers,Melvin in 1945,and Richard in 1925. Friends will be received in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m.at the funeral home with the Rev.Frank A.Bednar,pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Rochester,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson,funeral director,is in charge of arrangements.
