Mrs. Leah Wells Steen,66,of 934 Fayette Road, Belle Vernon,died at 6:02 p.m. Sunday,March 31,1957, in Charleroi-Monessen Hosptial,following a lingering illness. Mrs. Steen was born Jan. 24,1891 in Belle Vernon. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Wells. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon. Surviving are her husband,R. Mitchell Steen,Sr.; three sons,William of Belle Vernon, Samuel of New York City and R. Mitchell Steen Jr.of Monessen, news editor of the Daily Independent; two daughters, Mrs. Regis (Virginia) Carroll of Charleroi and Millicent,at home. Five grandsons and one great-grandson also survive. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad avenue, Belle Vernon, from 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,April 3,at 2 p.m. from the funeral home,with Rev. George Clarke,pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Edwin F. Melenyzer and Shelby D. Ferguson,funeral directors.
