Lawrence B. Mattis,66,of 412 Fayette street,Belle Vernon,husband of the late Lyde West Mattis,died Friday,June 26,1942,at 5:50 p.m. in the Mercy Hospital,Pittsburgh,following a short illness. The deceased was a son of the late John B.and Mary Miller Mattis and a member of the Baptist Church,and had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 30 years. He was widely known throughout the valley and was clerk at the First Baptist Church in Belle Vernon for several years. He is survived by one daughter,Mrs. Leonard W. Himes,Washington,D.C.and three sons,Norman W.Mattis,an instructer at Harvard University of Cambridge,Mass.,Lawrence B. Mattis, a private in training at Fort Knox,Ky. and West Mattis,a graduate of Pennsylvania Nautical School who is employed by the U.S. Maritime Commission;two sisters,Mrs. Fred Metz,of Cape May Courthouse,N.J. and Mrs. Eva Harbin,of Gadsden,Ala, and ond granddaughter. Friends are being received at the late home. Funeral services will be held there at 2:30 p.m. on Monday,June 29,in charge of Rev. P.E. Mundy,of Belle Vernon Baptist Church. Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Chas. L. and Edwin Melenyzer are funeral directors in charge.
