Larry D. Hughes, 66, of Brownsville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Aug. 9, 1948, in Monessen, he was the son of the late Rev. John and Theofa Hughes. He was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Jerry, Samuel, John Freeman and Floyd Hughes; four sisters, Thelma Bell, Rosalie Thompson, Ruth Hughes and Helen Barbour; a niece, Mildred Martin and a nephew, Calvin Hill. Larry served in the U.S. Marine Corp while stationed in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Brownsville, where he was ordained a deacon and member of the choir. God graced him with a beautiful voice. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, three daughters, Kelli McGee of Pittsburgh, Lesley and Danielle Hughes, both of Virginia; six grandchildren; sisters, June Scott of Hiller and Betty Sartor of Brownsville; brothers, Joseph Hughes of Rochester, Pa., and Robert Hughes of Clairton; a very devoted friend, Bonnie Chiles-Mays of Monessen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Canaan Baptist Church, 1302 Second St., Brownsville, Pa. Funeral services will be held in the church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, with the Rev. Andrew Dent officiating. Interment will take place at Belle Vernon Cemetery.
