A piece of broom straw was blamed for the death of the woman president of the Belle Vernon Water Company. Stricken nine days ago, apparently with acute appendicitis, the woman executive,Mrs. Katherine Logue,71,succumbed in Allegheny General Hospital Wednesday night,March 26,1941. When surgeons operated, they found that the broom straw had perforated the intestine, causing peritonitis which resulted in Mrs. Logue's death. Although a youth died a month ago when a toothpick he had swallowed led to a similar infection, physicians said that deaths from such causes are rare. Normally, the body absorbs or eliminates such small particles, they said. Surviving Mrs. Logue are her husband,John;a daughter,Miss DorothyLogue at home;a brother,Leslie Ream,of Duquesne;three sisters,Mrs. Lewis Biles,California,Pa.;Miss Nellie Ream and Mrs. A.J.Scorer,of Boston,Mass. Two grandchildren,Charles Galligan and John A. Logue of Belle Vernon, also survive. Funeral services are announced for Sunday,March 30 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Homer F. Pierce, pastor of the Belle Vernon Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
