Julius H. Girhiny; 69; of Rostraver Township; died Monday; Nov. 22; 2004 in the Donnell House; Washington. A son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Ferenz Girhing; he was born April 25; 1935 in Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; Council 3026; where he was a past Grand Knight; the K of C Golf League; and a life member of the Hungarian Club. Julius was a former president of the Holy Name Society of St. Sebastian Church; a former member and president of the Board of Directors for the Belle Vernon Area School District and a member of the Rostraver Veterans Memorial Committee. An avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Duquesne University basketball; he had been a referee for area high school athletics. A U.S. Army veteran; Mr. Girhiny retired as an engineer from the Fisher Body Works in West Mifflin and had been chairman of the board of the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland and Fayette counties. He was co-owner of the Cottage on Main in Dayton; Ohio. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law; Bernard A. and Betty Girhiny of Rostraver Township; four sisters and two brothers-in-law; Emma Beneccio of Dayton; Ohio; Elizabeth S. Girhiny; with whom he made his home; Margaret and Laurence Gocella of New Castle; Del.; and Julia and Richard Matway of Craven Hill; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE; (724-929-5300); a Golden Rule Member Firm; 700 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon. A blessing service will be in the funeral home on Wednesday; Nov. 24 at 10:30 a.m.; followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian R.C. Church at 11 a.m. with Fr. Donald J. Mondello as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 p.m.; led by members of St. Sebastian parish; and the Knights of Columbus will hold services at 7 p.m. If friends wish; memorial donations may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation or the Donnell House Hospice Care.
