Julia J. Popelas,73,of Main Street, Belle Vernon,died Sunday,Aug. 16,1998,at 12:30 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. Born July 17,1925,in Fairhope (Washington Township),she was the daughter of the late Michael and Antoinette Gleeza Petrosky. A resident of Belle Vernon the past 45 years,Mrs. Popelas was a member of the Peoples Bible Church. In addition to her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband,John Popelas Jr.,on June 2,1990;a son,Mark A. Popelas,in 1959;four brothers,Frank,Jack,Stanley and Walter Petrosky and a sister, Mary Indof. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, John T. Popelas III of Belle Vernon,George and Barbara Popelas of Houston,Pa and Robert and Cindy Popelas of Monessen;one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Rose Marie) Marmie of Hawaii;nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home,with Pastor Stephen Dobosh of Metro Baptist Temple,Rostraver Townshio,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Popelas' name to the Peoples Bible Church,Belle Vernon. Arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
