Obituary

Jules L.Bethem,74,of Rear 607 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,died Thursday,June 12,1975 at 1:55 a.m.in Haven Crest Convalescent Home in Carroll Twp.following a prolonged illness. Born Sept.14,1900,in Charleroi,Belgium,he formerly resided in Charleroi,Pa.,before moving to Belle Vernon. Mr.Bethem was a retired machinist from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He formerly operated a jewelry store and an appliance business in Belle Vernon. In 1943,he established the Bethem Machine Shop in Dunlevy which was moved to Belle Vernon in 1953,serving as owner and president of the firm which is now operated by two sons. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club of Belle Vernon and an honorary member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department. Preceding him in death were a son,Leonard,in 1951,and his first wife,Catherine,in 1963. Surviving are his second wife,Mrs.Martha Onderko Bethem,four sons,Curtis,Ronald and Gordon,all of Belle Vernon,and Darin of Twilight,two daughters,Mrs.Ed (Elaine) Binkney of Charleroi and Mrs.David (Norma) Herst of Milroy,Pa.,18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends are being received from 7 to 9 p.m.Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Friday in the Toner-Essey Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where a Blessing service will be held at 10 a.m.Saturday. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner and Gerald R.Essey are funeral directors in charge.
