Jules L.Bethem;74;of Rear 607 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Thursday;June 12;1975 at 1:55 a.m.in Haven Crest Convalescent Home in Carroll Twp.following a prolonged illness. Born Sept.14;1900;in Charleroi;Belgium;he formerly resided in Charleroi;Pa.;before moving to Belle Vernon. Mr.Bethem was a retired machinist from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He formerly operated a jewelry store and an appliance business in Belle Vernon. In 1943;he established the Bethem Machine Shop in Dunlevy which was moved to Belle Vernon in 1953;serving as owner and president of the firm which is now operated by two sons. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club of Belle Vernon and an honorary member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department. Preceding him in death were a son;Leonard;in 1951;and his first wife;Catherine;in 1963. Surviving are his second wife;Mrs.Martha Onderko Bethem;four sons;Curtis;Ronald and Gordon;all of Belle Vernon;and Darin of Twilight;two daughters;Mrs.Ed (Elaine) Binkney of Charleroi and Mrs.David (Norma) Herst of Milroy;Pa.;18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends are being received from 7 to 9 p.m.Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Friday in the Toner-Essey Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where a Blessing service will be held at 10 a.m.Saturday. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner and Gerald R.Essey are funeral directors in charge.
