Obituary

J.Russell Hormell of 513 McKean Ave.,Charleroi,was dead on arrival Wednesday,Feb.1,1978,at 2 p.m.at Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. He was 85. Mr.Hormell was born Sept.1,1892 in Coal Center,a son of the late John Thomas and Anna Elizabeth Day Hormell. He was a member of the First Christian Church and VFW Post 167,both in Charleroi,World War I Barracks,and UTW Local 1666,Monessen. He was a veteran of World War I,having served in the U.S.Army,Company G.,319th Infantry. Mr.Hormell ws retired from Monessen Southwestern Railroad of the former Pittsburgh Steel Company,Monessen. Survivors include his wife,Mary Frank Hormell,two daughters,Mrs.James (Frances) Metz of Johnstown,Ohio,and Mrs.Blanche Cornwell of Columbus,Ohio,one step-daughter,Mrs.Daniel (Carson) Leezer of New Eagle,14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home,226 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi,from 7 to 9 p.m.Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Friday. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m.with Dr.W.S.VanArsdale officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Schrock Hogan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
