Joyce Theakston, 75, of Belle Vernon, Washington Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at 9 p.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela. Born July 2, 1939, in North Belle Vernon, she was the daughter of the late David and Helen Gingery Theakston. Protestant by faith, Joyce was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon Area, was a graduate of Belle Vernon with the Class of 1957, graduated from California State College in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, in 1964 she earned her degree in special education, and in 1970 she graduated from California University of PA with a master's degree in guidance counseling. A teacher by profession, she taught kindergarten for one year, and special education for 12 years in the McKeesport Area School District from 1962 to 1975. She also worked as an interior decorator as an independent contractor from 1975 to 1984 and substituted in the Belle Vernon Area School District from 1984 to 2004 when she retired. She is survived by a nephew, Marc Dolan and wife, Jean, of Beaver Falls; three great-nephews, Trevor, Parker and Gage; a great-niece, Maeve; and seven other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Theakston; and a sister, Shirley Dolan. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATIONS, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Services will be held Saturday at the Parzynski Funeral Home and Cremations at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Suzanne Currie of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
