Obituary

Joseph W. Lachman, 95, of the Humbert Lane Nursing Center, formerly of Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 1909, a son of the late Michael Lachmanek and Caroline Tomalski Lachmanek. Having come from Poland in 1930, he worked as a coal miner at various locations throughout the area and as the custodian for St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Stack Lachman, three brothers, Frank, George and Stanley, and one sister, Anna. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph J. and Mary Lou Lachman of Charleroi, William A. and Dorothy Lachman of Bulger, one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Leonard Cardiff of Oldsmar, Fla., nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE (724-929-5300), a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. A blessing service will be in the funeral home Friday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery .The rosary will be prayed in the funeral home Thursday at 3 p.m. led by members of St. Sebastian Parish. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
