Obituary

Joseph Stevens Sr.of Lowber,R.D.1,Fayette City,died Monday,Oct.29,1984,at 7:55 p.m. in Allegheny General Hospital,Pittsburgh,following a lengthy illness. He was 69. Born in Washington Townhship,Fayette County,on Aug.23,1915,he was a son of the late Mike and Mary Danko Stevens. Mr.Stevens was a Catholic by faith. He was a veteran of World War II,serving with the U.S.Army,and was a retired coal miner. Surviving are his wife,Agnes Stihel Stevens,one son,Joseph Stevens Jr.of Fayette City R.D.1,two stepsons,George Stihel of Savanah,Tenn.and Leonard Stihel of Fayette City R.D.1,four stepdaughters,Veronica Payne of Hyattsville,Md.,Valerie Wilson of Herndon,Va,Rosemary Stihel of Falls Church,Va.,and Agnes Atkinson of Belle Vernon,two grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren,one brother,Mike Stevens of Fayette City R.D.1 and a sister,Anna Federer of Fayette City R.D.1. In addition to his parents,Mr.Stevens was preceded in death by a son,Frank,in 1982. Friends are being received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.,Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 11 a.m. when a blessing service will be held at the Howard W.McCrory Funeral Home,Fayette City. Rev,Father Thomas G.Rinn,pastor of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church,Fayette City,will officiate. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Howard W.McCrory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
