Joseph Stevens Sr.of Lowber;R.D.1;Fayette City;died Monday;Oct.29;1984;at 7:55 p.m. in Allegheny General Hospital;Pittsburgh;following a lengthy illness. He was 69. Born in Washington Townhship;Fayette County;on Aug.23;1915;he was a son of the late Mike and Mary Danko Stevens. Mr.Stevens was a Catholic by faith. He was a veteran of World War II;serving with the U.S.Army;and was a retired coal miner. Surviving are his wife;Agnes Stihel Stevens;one son;Joseph Stevens Jr.of Fayette City R.D.1;two stepsons;George Stihel of Savanah;Tenn.and Leonard Stihel of Fayette City R.D.1;four stepdaughters;Veronica Payne of Hyattsville;Md.;Valerie Wilson of Herndon;Va;Rosemary Stihel of Falls Church;Va.;and Agnes Atkinson of Belle Vernon;two grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren;one brother;Mike Stevens of Fayette City R.D.1 and a sister;Anna Federer of Fayette City R.D.1. In addition to his parents;Mr.Stevens was preceded in death by a son;Frank;in 1982. Friends are being received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.;Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 11 a.m. when a blessing service will be held at the Howard W.McCrory Funeral Home;Fayette City. Rev;Father Thomas G.Rinn;pastor of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church;Fayette City;will officiate. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Howard W.McCrory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
